April Chandler has dedicated herself to supporting the students of Loudoun County, their teachers, and the local community throughout her 17 years living in Algonkian District.
April was elected to the Algonkian District seat on the Loudoun School Board in 2023. During her time on the Loudoun County School Board, she has searved as chair of the Legislative, Audit, & Policy Committee. She also serves on the Human Resources & Talent Development Committee, the Joint Committee with the Board of Supervisors and as the liaison to the Head Start Policy Council.
April worked in early childhood education, providing young learners in Fairfax and Loudoun with a strong baseline that prepared them for advancing to more formal schooling. An active and engaged parent of two Loudoun County Public School students, April served in multiple leadership positions for Algonkian District-based Parent-Teacher Associations. She has also gained important exposure to the inner workings of Loudoun’s school system through her experience working as a substitute teacher in various Sterling elementary and middle schools.
April invests her personal time in the causes she believes in. Over the past decade, she has volunteered for various local and national civic organizations, including the Loudoun County Democratic Committee, Moms Demand Action, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Together We Will Loudoun, and others groups. One of her earliest childhood memories is the time that she went knocking on doors in rural Kentucky in support of President Jimmy Carter’s re-election campaign.
April served as a staff aide to the previous Algonkian District representative. She is a trained teacher who substituted for LCPS and is an active member of the Loudoun County community, where she has worked and volunteered for more than 17 years.
Earlier in her career, April worked in a bipartisan government affairs firm, at one of Washington’s top law firms, and in the legal department at Capital One. April resides in the Countryside area of Sterling with her husband, two children, and dog. She graduated from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. LCPS School Board Candidates
